PostSubject: Ulli´s Guide to Better Landscaping   Wed Oct 07, 2009 11:36 pm

I have promised to offer some guidance for better landscaping, hopefully!!
We start with an easy one. Ed, this is for you!

I start with these two trees.
(You can download them at Sims Crossing. It´s the Small Bonsai Voyage and Small Gonem Nasai Bonsai tree CII has done the Maxi´s ones smaller. )

I open the cheat window and write move_objects on
With that cheat you can put these trees like this if you want.

I chose to have them like this. One square away from the pavement and one square away from the neighbour´s garden.

My favorite bush Nengi65`s Big Bougainvillea. I take three and put them around the trees like this.

Now I need some terrainpaint the darkest brown is nice.
Around the trees and under the bushes.

I finish it up with a Giggly Grass from Buggybooz in the same square as the first tree.

Well then, tell me does this make any sense? Do I need to get closer with the pics? Or........Please tell me.

You don´t have to use exactly these trees or these bushes I have used. Take what you have and try it!

And send some pics of course! Good luck!

Ulli, this is wonderful! And yes, it all makes perfect sense.

I am so glad you've agreed to start a little thread to help members improve with landscaping our Sims lots.
Heaven knows, I need all the help I can get!

I love Nengi's Bonsai trees & big Bougainvilla bushes.
It's amazing what just the right foliage, proper placement, & a little terrain paint will do to spiff up a corner of a yard.
Isn't it?
The Giggly Grass brings it all together so nicely. Looks great!

I'm going to experiment with this tonight when I load up my game.

Thank you so much for Ulli's Guide to Better Landscaping.
I, for one, appreciate it and will be looking to you for helpful hints and tips often.

Thanks Sugah!

I hope you will send some pics of your experiments that would be fun!

The Bonsai trees are made by CII and the bushes are Nengis.
If you want I can do a little cc list in the bottom of every entry if there is somebody who wants to dl these stuff.

Oh, duh! I just reread your post. You DID say the Bonsai trees were CII's! Sorry about that, m'lady.
And yes, I think it would be a wonderful idea if you did a little cc list on the bottom of each entry.
That way, we can go grab your lovely landcaping finds so we can try to replicate what you've done.

I shall post a pic or two of my first attempt at recreating your first little tutorial. I promise!

Thank you!

I need a very easy to follow tutorial with pictures. I'm slooooooooow.

And, that's exactly what you did.

Thank you.

Looks easy enough. Just a matter of using move objects on.

That's how I am, Ed...a very visual learner (must have images) AND I need things in simple terms.

Okay, I didn't have your tutorial memorized when I went into game just now, Ulli.
And I don't have all of the same plants & trees as is suggested in your post yet either.

So, I improvised, based on what I remembered you shared with us.

Here is my first attempt.

I intend on trying again, once I get some more trees & shrubs downloaded.
Obviously, these old dead trees aren't the best choice, but I don't have any the size of CII's Bonsai ones in game yet.
I think I put my shrubs too close together. Yours look more spread out.

I'm going to visit Sims Crossing to get some better landscaping goodies to work with, then give it another go.

In the meantime, what problems can your seasoned eye see with what I've done here, Ulli?
I am open for all critiquing, both negative and positive.

Okay Ladies -

I'll be applying these methods to my next construction effort.

Ulli - I bow to you. YOU are the master!

Sometimes when I'm going landscaping I think - "not bad." THEN I see something you did and my balloon completely deflates. That's a compliment M'Lady - I love looking at your landscaping and interior design as well. I'm so happy you're doing this thread as I feel it will help me and many others. Fabulous idea!!

Sugah - your first attempt is very good M'Lady. Something about putting florals around the trees does bring it together - and almost always looks good.

Well Done Ladies! GREAT IDEA!!!

I´m going to use those old trees Sugah used on her pics and do it like I would have done it.
Sugah your installations was very nice but I felt it wasn´t quite finished I show you how I think.

I´m using move_objects on always. I put these two trees as close as possible.
And on the squares next to the pavement.

Three of Nengis shrubs around the trees.

I could not find those grasses you used Sugah but I take one of the Giggly grasses.

I do it again with some other Maxis trees

As close as possible again.

Three shrubs Nengis once again. Around the trees.

I try a rock instead of grass. Looks like this. Don´t forget terrainpaint the light brown this time.

They are done in the same way. Instead of that grass you can use what you want.

CC included

Nengi65 Rock Collection @

Big Bougainvillea @ Sims Crossing

Buggybooz Giggly grass @ MTS2

Ooooh...I love the use of the rock there in front, Ulli.

Okay, so I need to move the trees closer together. I noticed you are putting them on the edge of the lot.
So, I will move mine closer to the sidewalk. I also need to wrap the big bougainvillas around the trees more thoroughly.
Got it!

Today, I downloaded what you recommended. Thank you for posting the cc content and where to find it.
I was bummed out that the bonsai trees call for Bon Voyage, as I really like those.
Oh well! I'll just have to make do with what I can find.

Will post some more pics later tonight or tomorrow, as I hope to load up my game and give it another try in a bit.
Thank you, Ulli. I appreciate this fabulous thread, dahling.

I swear I'm going to try this.

Since I'm still working on Michael's house. And, he lives there too.....GASP!!

The poor guy spends more time in pause than actually doing anything. Every now and then he gives that look like, I'm going to jump out of this game and smack you right upside the head. You know, if he did I'd probably scream and then wet my pants....No...Wait, I'd wet my pants first and then scream....

OK.......I tried something....

This is what it looks like at night.

Michael lives in a modern house, so I thought I'd try and create something modern looking.

The bubble needs OFB.

I used some dirt and plastic plants. The palm tree is not plastic. At least I don't think it is. It comes in several different sizes. The smallest size is one without the trunk.

My first attempt.......

Now I´m curious what on earth is that bubble? Is it a fountain?
