Windows 10 Empty
PostSubject: Windows 10   Windows 10 EmptyTue Sep 01, 2015 9:34 am

Well it seems that technology is changing faster than ever before - feels like Windows 8 just came out and now theres Windows 10. I currently am on Windows 7 and so far I've had no problems running Sims2 thankfully at all (systemwise that is). My computer is offering a free system upgrade to windows 10. Wondering what your thoughts are as to whether or not it will be ok to run my Sims2 on it. I dont really use my computer for much but free is what triggered my curiosity. Now I do have a laptop with 8 and my game works ok on it, but my daughter has windows 8 and she was unable(she says) to run sims 2, however shes playing sims4 with absolutely no problems.

should I upgrade or stay put? has anyone already done so and is the game ok?

Hi, Fee! I am not sure, but I didn't think you could run Sims 2 with Windows 8.
Your laptop plays Sims 2 with no issues? WOW! That's news!

I wouldn't think Windows 10 would be compatible with Sims 2 either.
I was under the impression that Windows 7 was the last OS to accommodate Sims 2 and that was with a bit of tweaking!

I may not be the best equipped to answer this question.
My laptop currently runs with Windows 8 (which I HATE). My desktop has Windows 7 (which I like & play/create on).
I'm leaving Windows 7 on the desktop for my Sims and have a reserved copy of Windows 10 for my laptop.
It has to be better than 8! Windows 10 266736

Let's see what some of our other, more tech savvy, members say on the subject...

Among the geekosphere  Windows 10 364821  I frequent, the word is: If you have Win 7 - why???? Windows 10 553217

There are some snazzy new features on Win 10, and it's better than Win 8 (so are stone axes) and apparently it falls into the Microsoft pattern of every other OS being OK.

I have the little upgrade icon on my computer, too, but if my current OS (Win 7) ain't broke, why fix it!

I'd always wait until I determined whether Win 10 would run TS2! Windows 10 971462

Windows 10 Empty
PostSubject: Re: Windows 10   Windows 10 EmptyTue Sep 01, 2015 12:06 pm

Well, from what I have seen it seems to work ok on Windows 10. I am not using Windows 10 myself and my hubby is actually downloading the Ultimate Collection to test on his Windows 10 pc that was upgraded, and see how it goes.

So far my husband has upgraded, and believe it or not, my 73 year old mom wanted me to upgrade her pc with Windows 10. The only she does on her pc is play games, mostly match 3 and hidden object. She plays alot of the free games on Iwin, if any of you ever want to check it out, the only problem is they have ads.

But back to Windows 10 so far my husband and my mom both have had issues with a critical error problem, and with a little research, since the both of them looked to me to fix thier problem Windows 10 553217 I had to do a bit of research and it seems to be a problem for alot of folks, it has to do with windows update issues that do not install correctly, they seem to be fixed for some by doing restarts over and over til it seems to resolve, which is what worked for my husband, but honestly I think even though Sims 2 will work it is kind of best to let them work out some of the kinks and quirks, we have a year to get the free upgrade. Especially if you use your pc for lots of things and you only have one.

So that is my take on Windows 10 so far, but I would be happy to share how the experience goes with hubby and his Windows 10 sims 2 trial run, as soon as the game installs and we can try it out, we have the slowest internet EVA, so that could be a few days Windows 10 993625099 .:), but I will let you all know.

Windows 10 357604 That's just what I was thinking, Mac- its something about that word free, maybe I can reserve it but not actually download it until necessary.

Now Sugah, as you know I'm not tech savvy at all - so I have to ck my laptop when I get home I think its 8 though.

Thanks for the feed back Lovey! I will wait then.

PostSubject: Re: Windows 10   Windows 10 EmptyTue Sep 01, 2015 12:45 pm

I'd still be using XP if I could; it was the best OS. I reluctantly "upgraded" to Windows 7. I don't have any need or desire for Windows 8 or any of the OSs that are designed to make your computer look and/or function like a tablet. That's just my personal preference. I'll go to Windows 10 the same way I went to 7 -- kicking and screaming. laughin

I have read mixed reviews from people who have gone to Windows 10. There can be an issue where it doesn't complete the download all at once, which can mess with your current OS and leave you with a mess. Other people have had no problems and love it. From what I've read, you can probably run the Ultimate Collection on Windows 10, but probably not the older versions that have to be loaded from disks or DVDs.

I am not 100 percent certain, but I do think I have seen others on Tumblr say that the disc version has been working ok as well, but do not quote me on that.

I am with you on Xp, but I hear you can talk to Windows 10 so does this mean we can now tell the sims 2 sit down and we may have a chance they will actually do it ? Windows 10 448283 I am kidding of course :), but it would be pretty marvelous don't ya think ?

But why stop there? Google and a bunch of others are working on VR (Virtual reality) like mad - one of the early applications would be in gaming. Can you imagine walking into your own sims neighborhood? Now that would be something! affraid

PostSubject: Re: Windows 10   Windows 10 EmptyTue Sep 01, 2015 5:36 pm

I think I am going to wait until I start hearing good things about Windows 10 before I install my reserved copy.
Windows 8 may be a royal pain in the tush, but I haven't had any critical errors or issues of any sort yet.
I just find it not too terribly navigator/user friendly.
And I am sooooo with those of you who play with and love Windows XP.
I miss XP, though I do like Windows 7 well enough.

Gotta go! Parker is up from her nap. Will try to respond more later...

I may have mentioned it before, but for those of you who are using (and more or less liking) Win 7 but are having a few quirks and problems with it, there is:

Windows 7 the missing manual by David Pogue - around 900 pages - published by O'Reilly $39.99 - In the early days I considered it my bible!

He's also written similar for Win 8 and Win 10.

Same here!! The only reason I upgraded to Win7 was that my hard drive died laughin
I had heard before that happened though that W7 was ok with the Sims! Whew! So, in my opinion I would wait on the upgrade, Seems to be mixed reports on 10.

If anyone finds out anything definitive about Win 10 and TS, please share. I'd like to know too. I specifically bought my new desktop with Win 7 so it would play TS2 and I've been getting the messages about reserving a free upgrade too. (I really wish the option would show up on my laptop, that's junky and I don't use anymore, so I could test it out there first, but the option hasn't come up.) I've personally had no problems running TS2 with Windows 7 (both from disks and the Ultimate Collection) without any special tweaking at all. I was under the impression that it was possible to play with Windows 8, but it took A LOT of tweaking. Wasn't it more of a graphic card issue? I'm playing with the UC now, so I can have the NL expansion stuff, so if it works with that, I guess I would be good to go. I'm still a little too wary to even reserve a copy until I know more.

Oh, my virtual reality sims . . . I can't imagine. My thought was along Cher's sentiment, I'm afraid I might get too caught up to bother with real life at all.

I have heard mixed reviews as well about how well TS2 and Win 10 work together. Part of the problem is with each new version of Windows Microsoft drops more and more support for older apps and games. For instance 16 bit programs will not run with Windows Vista and newer OSs.

I can't say I will be doing anything with Windows 10 anytime soon, The mere mention of tiles scares me away. I dealt with them in Windows 8 and just plain disliked them.

My husband downloaded the UC and opened it in WIndows 10 and the graphics were terrible, but I was convinced it may have been due to Intel Hd graphics, but I still can't wrap my head around the idea of a newer made hd graphic card not being able to run a 10 year old game, but I know I had issues with my own so it could have been the case, so after a couple days of annoying graphic issues I decided to bite the bullet and take the chance and use the graphic rule maker program and see if it would work, and I figured worst result is another 3 long days of waiting to redownload and install. Well, low and behold it worked and by just choosing the intel graphic option and it looks great and so far so good.

But, I still think holding off for Windows 10 is worth it for them to work out the bugs and that critical error issue, that seems to be an ongoing issue for some folks.

Actually, I think some of the newer graphics cards sometimes do have problems with Sims 2 because they're don't bother to support it any more. My graphics card worked perfectly until one of the updates. I couldn't finish loading Sims 2 and got some kind of graphics error message until I rolled back the driver. I've bookmarked your link, Lovey. Windows 10 243713

To install Sims 2 on Win 8 you need to use Grumpy Loader found here: http://www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?p=4051458#post4051458

For Win 10 have a read of http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/microsoft/windows/11782807/windows-10-privacy.html

Even though, I will install Win 10 on one of my computers to see how it goes.

Windows 10 503793 I really need help! Any suggestions or even just tell me if i am in denial.

So in a diff thread I just happened to mention that I had win 10 somewhere in the background of my computer and I was concerned that maybe it would self install like it did to others - still i didnt do anything about it. my rl is so twisted and connected that one story just leads to another but Someone came to my place while I wasnt there messing around on my desktop and then i I ended up with win10 instead of win7 - I am not ready yet to put sims back on im still playing around with downloads on my lap top and trying things out 1st. anyway I have geeksquad protection offered by best buy and my subscription auto renews - which also happened around the same time at one point my computer said that neither kaspersky nor windows security were running and my computer became v e r y s l o w until finally wouldnt move at all and i called the geeks made my appt and took my baby to the hospital. the above things happened in a time frame of about 5-7 days. and in that order. when it froze completely, i had to unplug it to turn it off and i gave it to them on fri. now today i got an email at work saying it is my hard drive and i need a new hard drive or new computer - but even though it is win 7 it is only like 3 yrs old. should i take it somewhere else for a 2nd opinion? ro is this possibly just coincidence? it worked fine not 2 weeks ago. Im wondering if they are trying to make me spend money i do not have to spare right now - and just when the Harbour seasons re started! Windows 10 971462
well if anyone needs this info - one of the things geek squad told me when I dropped off is that the win 10 auto install is not the end of the world because it can be rolled back to your previous operating system if you do it within 30 days of the install. it takes a picture of what your system was and hides it somewhere on your computer and if you dont like new you can have old back - only people who know this stuff can find it. i guess people who work on computers. if you want it after july i believe - you will have to pay for it and of course all new computers come with it
