| We used to have a thread like this over at PTS, when I was a mod there. Some folks love it, some hate it, some don't give a rat's patootey about it.
Basically, you just come in here and sing. Whether it's a song that is stuck in your head, one you've always loved, or a tune that suits your mood... Just let loose and share it with us! All you do is post the name of the song, the singer, a dedication if you'd like & the lyrics. YouTube videos are optional but welcome. And since we're all friends here, I have no doubt you'll receive plenty of kudos and applause for your performance.
I shall start...
This one goes out to precious Elle...because I can't help thinking of NY without thinking of my dear friend anymore. I love this song and always have.
New York State of Mind by Billy Joel
Some folks like to get away, Take a holiday from the neighborhood. Hop a flight to Miami Beach or to Hollywood. But I'm takin' a Greyhound on the Hudson River line. I'm in a New York state of mind.
I've seen all the movie stars in their fancy cars and their limousines. Been high in the Rockys under the evergreens. I know what I'm needin', and I don't wanna waste more time. I'm in a New York state of mind.
It was so easy livin' day by day Out of touch with the rhythym and blues But now I need a little give and take The New York Times, the Daily News.
It comes down to reality, and it's fine with me cause I've let it slide. I don't care if it's Chinatown or on Riverside. I don't have any reasons. I left them all behind. I'm in a New York state of mind. Oh yeah.
It was so easy living day by day Out of touch with the rhythym and blues But now I need a little give and take The New York Times, the Daily News. Who, oh, oh whoa who.
It comes down to reality, and it's fine with me cause I've let it slide. I don't care if it's Chinatown or on Riverside. I don't have any reasons. I left them all behind. I'm in a New York state of mind.
I'm just taking a Greyhound on the Hudson River line. Cause I'm in a, I'm in a New York state of mind.

| Why, thank you, ma'am. I used to be a big fan of Billy Joel. I still enjoy listening to his cds.
Does anyone else care to step up to the microphone? |

| I really like this song and it has been stuck in my head for the past couple of days... and I dedicate it to all my friends here!!
"You've Got A Friend" -James Taylor
When your down and troubled
And you need a helping hand
And nothing, whoa nothing is going right.
Close your eyes and think of me
And soon I will be there
To brighten up even your darkest nights.
You just call out my name,
And you know where ever I am
I'll come running, oh yeah baby
To see you again.
Winter, spring , summer, or fall,
All you have to do is call
And I'll be there, yeah, yeah, yeah.
You've got a friend.
If the sky above you
Should turn dark and full of clouds
And that old north wind should begin to blow
Keep your head together and call my name out loud
And soon I will be knocking upon your door.
You just call out my name and you know where ever I am
I'll come running to see you again.
Winter, Spring, summer or fall
All you got to do is call
And I'll be there, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Hey, ain't it good to know that you've got a friend?
People can be so cold.
They'll hurt you and desert you.
Well they'll take your soul if you let them.
Oh yeah, but don't you let them.
You just call out my name and you know wherever I am
I'll come running to see you again.
Oh babe, don't you know that,
Winter Spring summer or fall,
Hey now, all you've got to do is call.
Lord, I'll be there, yes I will.
You've got a friend.
You've got a friend.
Ain't it good to know you've got a friend.
Ain't it good to know you've got a friend.
You've got a friend. _________________ Hey,I got some new shoes on and suddenly everything's alright :)

| Awww...great job, Jen! Thank you for the sweet dedication and for singing to us first thing Monday morn.
This song was the first one hubby and I danced to at our wedding. It's "our song" and was I surprised to hear it played during the movie Julie and Julia! I got all verklempt, as I loved that movie and RARELY (if ever) hear this song. It's just so beautiful in it's simplicity.
Time After Time - written by Sammy Cahn -as sung by Tony Bennett
What good are words I say to you? They can't convey to you what's in my heart If you could hear instead The things I've left unsaid
Time after time I tell myself that I'm So lucky to be loving you
So lucky to be The one you run to see In the evening, when the day is through
I only know what I know The passing years will show You've kept my love so young, so new
And time after time You'll hear me say that I'm So lucky to be loving you |

| Awww... what a great song Sugah. It is so sweet and beautiful. What a great song to dance to at your wedding.
Seeing how my sweetie and I loved The Beatles I will share one of our favorite songs. He learned to play this on the guitar for me. It's been in my head somewhat today as well as the James Taylor one.
Something Something in the way she moves Attracts me like no other lover, Something in the way she woos me.
I don't want to leave her now, You know I believe and how.
Somewhere in her smile she knows That I don't need no other lover. Something in her style that shows me.
I don't want to leave her now, You know I believe and how.
You're asking me will my love grow, I don't know, I don't know.
You stick around now it may show, I don't know, I don't know.
Something in the way she knows And all I have to do is think of her, Something in the things she shows me. I don't want to leave her now,
You know I believe and how. _________________ Hey,I got some new shoes on and suddenly everything's alright :)

| Oh, Jen. I must confess I have never been a big Beatles fan, but I do love that song. How romantic that Ted learned how to play it on guitar for you!
Since you were so kind to step up to the mike again, I'd like to dedicate this next song to YOU. It's one of my very favorite Beatles songs and I hope it's one of yours.
I love this song.
In My Life as sung by The Beatles
There are places I remember All my life, though some have changed Some forever, not for better Some have gone and some remain
All these places had their moments With lovers and friends, I still can recall Some are dead and some are living In my life, I've loved them all
But of all these friends and lovers There is no one compares with you And these memories lose their meaning When I think of love as something new
Though I know I'll never lose affection For people and things that went before I know I'll often stop and think about them In my life, I'll love you more
Though I know I'll never lose affection For people and things that went before I know I'll often stop and think about them In my life, I'll love you more |

| After reading the last few posts, even though the songs have nothing to do with him, it put me in the mood to hear some Elton John. The following song is playing as I type.
Something About the Way You Look Tonight, Sir Elton John
There was a time I was everything and nothing all in one When you found me I was feeling like a cloud across the sun
I need to tell you How you light up every second of the day But in the moonlight You just shine like a beacon on the bay
And I can't explain But it's something about the way you look tonight Takes my breath away It's that feeling I get about you, deep inside And I can't describe But it's something about the way you look tonight Takes my breath away The way you look tonight
With your smile You pull the deepest secrets from my heart In all honesty I'm speechless and I don't know where to start
And I can't explain But it's something about the way you look tonight Takes my breath away It's that feeling I get about you, deep inside And I can't describe But it's something about the way you look tonight Takes my breath away The way you look tonight. _________________ It's Elle, Baby! | Oh such great song choices. I am a HUGE lover of music, a friend of mine turned me onto this group a few years ago and I fell in love. I don't really know how to describe what genre they go in ... not complete alternative nor complete anything else. They have their own style
"Sing For Absolution" -Muse
lips are turning blue a kiss that can't renew I only dream of you my beautiful
tiptoe to your room a starlight in the gloom I only dream of you and you never knew
sing for absolution I will be singing And falling from your grace
there's nowhere left to hide in no one to confide the truth burns deep inside and will never die
lips are turning blue a kiss that can't renew I only dream of you my beautiful
sing for absolution I will be singing And falling from your grace
sing for absolution I will be singing And falling from your grace
our wrongs remain unrectified and our souls won't be exhumed _________________ Hey,I got some new shoes on and suddenly everything's alright :)

Everything the man does is golden, at least in my opinion.
I am going to look up this group you just listed, Jen. When I read the lyrics, they sounded familiar, but I can't place them or get a melody going. I am sure I have heard this. I love the sentiment of the song. _________________ It's Elle, Baby! Let's eat grandma!. . . Let's eat, Grandma! . . . As you can see punctuation does save lives! |

| I think I was the biggest Elton John and Billy Joel fan (simultaneously during the late 70s thru the 80s) EVER! I still enjoy listening to their music from time to time. Thank you for singing to us, ladies.
A few days back, I listened to Muse's YouTube video of Sing For Absolution. That band is completely new to me. Have they been around long? I agree with Elle. I like the sentiment of the song you sang to us. |
