A dear friend of mine told me recently that she was unfamiliar with the talent who was Amy Winehouse, so I thought I would share Amy's last song. This is her final work, along with the great Tony Bennett.

My friend, thank you for sharing that duet with me. I'd venture to guess it's on Tony's new Duet II cd (which I am sooo wanting). I love the way Tony looks at Amy while they're singing. He's such a class act.
I have never heard Amy's voice before, but she has a sound that almost belongs in the era this song was written in (1930). I think Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday have all recorded "Body & Soul".
So glad you shared in this thread, dear one.

I love the Seal IV cd and this is one of my very faves on it. Great song ... and man, can Seal sing it! (Sorry about the lyrics across the bottom of the video. I couldn't find another version. )
"Don't Make Me Wait"
Are we tired of feeling blue Can I get along with you Just don't tell me try Every time we fuss and fight What I really try to say Is I won't be afraid, yah If you say you're willing too Close your eyes and maybe - maybe see it through
Don't make me wait long Sounds like a sad song of mine Every time we meet baby on the street there we go Always seem to fight why we do I never now that All I can take 'Cause you ain't easy Some can relate
That's life, get back together, every time It amazes me to say, yah I've been so tired to find my way, close to you To love divine is what I - what I'm gonna do Yah, What I'm really trying to say Is love won't deny me, cause everyday is like a newly day Lovin' till the end yah yah yah yah:.
Don't make me wait long Sounds like a sad song of mine Every time we meet baby on the street there we go Always seem to fight why we do I never now that All I can take 'Cause you ain't easy Some can relate So I dream of And dream of And dream of And dream of your life And dream of And that's how we make love And we dream of And dream of And dream of And dream through the night
Don't make me wait long Don't make me wait long Every time we meet baby on the street there we go Always seem to fight why we do, I never now that All I can take 'Cause you ain't easy Some can relate, hey That's life, get back together, every time.

Yes, it is on there along with a version of 'The Lady is a Tramp', which Tony sings with "The GaGa".

She was often compared to the great voices of that era, called the "real deal" by the aficionados of that genre. We have definitely lost a true talent!
I have recently discovered Damien Rice...( I just have a thing about an Irish or Scottsman)
There is just something about his lyrics and his voice that move me..
This is one of my favorites called "The Animals Were Gone" Woke up and for the first time the animals were gone It's left this house empty now, not sure if I belong Yesterday you asked me to write you a pleasant song I'll do my best now, but you've been gone for so long
The window's open now and the winter settles in We'll call it Christmas when the adverts begin I love your depression and I love your double chin I love 'most everything that you bring to this offering
Oh I know that I left you in places of despair Oh I know that I love you, so please throw down your hair At night I trip without you, and hope I don't wake up 'Cause waking up without you is like drinking from an empty cup
Woke up and for the first time the animals were gone Our clocks are ticking now so before our time is gone We could get a house and some boxes on the lawn We could make babies and accidental songs
I know I've been a liar and I know I've been a fool I hope we didn't break yet, but I'm glad we broke the rules My cave is deep now, yet your light is shining through I cover my eyes, still all I see is you
Oh I know that I left you in places of despair Oh I know that I love you, so please throw down your hair At night I trip without you, and hope I don't wake up 'Cause waking up without you is like drinking from an empty cup
Wow so many cool songs. My turn now lets see... I love this one.
It's Still Rock and Roll To Me Billy Joel
What's the matter with the clothes I'm wearing? Can't you tell that your tie's too wide? Maybe I should buy some old tab collars? Welcome back to the age of jive. Where have you been hidin' out lately, honey? You can't dress trashy till you spend a lot of money. Everybody's talkin' 'bout the new sound Funny, but it's still rock and roll to me
What's the matter with the car I'm driving? Can't you tell that it's out of style? Should I get a set of white wall tires? Are you gonna cruise the miracle mile? Nowadays you can't be too sentimental Your best bet's a true baby blue Continental. Hot funk, cool punk, even if it's old junk It's still rock and roll to me.
Oh, it doesn't matter what they say in the papers 'Cause it's always been the same old scene. There's a new band in town But you can't get the sound from a story in a magazine... Aimed at your average teen
How about a pair of pink sidewinders And a bright orange pair of pants? You could really be a Beau Brummell baby If you just give it half a chance. Don't waste your money on a new set of speakers, You get more mileage from a cheap pair of sneakers. Next phase, new wave, dance craze, anyways It's still rock and roll to me
What's the matter with the crowd I'm seeing? Don't you know that they're out of touch? Should I try to be a straight 'A' student? If you are then you think too much. Don't you know about the new fashion honey? All you need are looks and a whole lotta money. It's the next phase, new wave, dance craze, anyways It's still rock & roll to me. Everybody's talkin' 'bout the new sound Funny, but it's still rock and roll to me

Great Song
I am still on a Damien Rice kick....I just can't quit listening to his beautiful songs... He is so mellow but his lyrics are just heart tugging and his voice is sooo soothing
"Delicate"
We might kiss when we are alone When nobody's watching We might take it home We might make out when nobody's there It's not that we're scared It's just that it's delicate
So why do you fill my sorrow With the words you've borrowed From the only place you've known And why do you sing Hallelujah If it means nothing to you Why do you sing with me at all?
We might live like never before When there's nothing to give Well how can we ask for more We might make love in some sacred place The look on your face is delicate
So why do you fill my sorrow With the words you've borrowed From the only place you've known And why do you sing Hallelujah If it means nothing to you Why do you sing with me at all?
So why do you fill my sorrow With the words you've borrowed From the only place you've known And why do you sing Hallelujah If it means nothing to you Why do you sing with me at all?

"My Immortal"
I'm so tired of being here Suppressed by all my childish fears And if you have to leave I wish that you would just leave Your presence still lingers here And it won't leave me alone
These wounds won't seem to heal This pain is just too real There's just too much that time cannot erase
[Chorus:] When you cried I'd wipe away all of your tears When you'd scream I'd fight away all of your fears And I held your hand through all of these years But you still have All of me
You used to captivate me By your resonating light Now I'm bound by the life you left behind Your face it haunts My once pleasant dreams Your voice it chased away All the sanity in me
These wounds won't seem to heal This pain is just too real There's just too much that time cannot erase
[Chorus]
I've tried so hard to tell myself that you're gone But though you're still with me I've been alone all along
[Chorus]

One of my favorite songs by Reba McEntire is her duet with Vince Gill called "The Heart Won't Lie". Such a beautiful song.
"The Heart Won't Lie"
(Reba) Looking back over the years Of all the things I've always meant to say But the words didn't come easily So many times through empty fears Of all the nights I tried to pick up the phone So scared of who might be answering
You try to live your life from day to day But seeing you across the room tonight Just gives me away
(Both) 'Cause the heart won't lie Sometimes life gets in the way But there's one thing that won't change I know, I've tried The heart won't lie You can live your alibi Who can see you're lost inside A foolish disguise? (Reba) The heart won't lie
(Vince) Long after tonight Will you still hear my voice through the radio Old desires make us act carelessly Long after tonight, after the fire After the scattered ashes fly Through the four winds blown and gone Will you come back to me?
You try to live your life from day to day But seeing you across the room tonight Just gives me away
(Both) 'Cause the heart won't lie Sometimes life gets in the way But there's one thing that won't change I know, I've tried The heart won't lie You can live your alibi Who can see you're lost inside A foolish disguise? (Vince) The heart won't lie

That's a pretty song, Beckylynn. I haven't listened to country music much this past decade, but I've always loved Vince Gill's sound. Good choice!!!
This is one of my faves from the movie version of "Mamma Mia" as sung by the absolutely darling & delightful Amanda Seyfried. Who know she could sing, too?
I Have a Dream
SOPHIE:
I have a dream A song to sing To help me cope With anything If you see the wonder Of a fairy tale You can take the future Even if you fail I believe in angels Something good in everything I see I believe in angels When I know the time is right for me I'll cross the stream I have a dream
COMPANY:
I have a dream A fantasy To help me through Reality And my destination Makes it worth the while Pushing through the darkness Still another mile I believe in angels Something good in everything I see I believe in angels When I know the time is right for me I'll cross the stream I have a dream I'll cross the stream

Ok I'm gonna go back to my childhood and post a song from one of my favorite movies.
The Bare Necessities from The Jungle Book
Look for the bare necessities The simple bare necessities Forget about your worries and your strife I mean the bare necessities Old Mother Nature's recipes That brings the bare necessities of life
Wherever I wander, wherever I roam I couldn't be fonder of my big home The bees are buzzin' in the tree To make some honey just for me When you look under the rocks and plants And take a glance at the fancy ants Then maybe try a few
The bare necessities of life will come to you They'll come to you!
Look for the bare necessities The simple bare necessities Forget about your worries and your strife I mean the bare necessities That's why a bear can rest at ease With just the bare necessities of life
Now when you pick a pawpaw Or a prickly pear And you prick a raw paw Next time beware Don't pick the prickly pear by the paw When you pick a pear Try to use the claw But you don't need to use the claw When you pick a pear of the big pawpaw Have I given you a clue ?
The bare necessities of life will come to you They'll come to you!
So just try and relax, yeah cool it Fall apart in my backyard 'Cause let me tell you something little britches If you act like that bee acts, uh uh You're working too hard
And don't spend your time lookin' around For something you want that can't be found When you find out you can live without it And go along not thinkin' about it I'll tell you something true
The bare necessities of life will come to you

This is one of my all time Christmas faves. Love this whole Vince Guaraldi holiday cd.
However, I can't sing it (karaoke), since there are no words that I know of. Just wanted to share some lovely music this festive time of year. All Christmas songs are welcome this month, btw!

Sideways - Citizen Cope
You know it ain't easy For these thoughts here to leave me There's no words to describe it In French or in English Well, diamonds they fade And flowers they bloom And I'm telling you These feelings won't go away They've been knockin' me sideways They've been knockin' me out lately Whenever you come around me These feelings won't go away They've been knockin' me sideways I keep thinking in a moment that Time will take them away But these feelings won't go away
These feelings won't go away

Thanks Elle Belle, he is my latest music crush :)
Here is another music crush -
Damien Rice
Grey Room
Well I've been here before Sat on the floor in a grey grey room Where I stay in all day I don't eat, but I play with this grey grey food
Desole, if someone is prayin' then I might break out, Desole, even if I scream I can't scream that loud
I'm all alone again Crawling back home again Stuck by the phone again
Well I've been here before Sat on a floor in a grey grey mood Where I stay up all night And all that I write is a grey grey tune
So pray for me child, just for a while That I might break out yeah Pray for me child Even a smile would do for now
'Cause I'm all alone again Crawling back home again Stuck by the phone again
Have I still got you to be my open door Have I still got you to be my sandy shore Have I still got you to cross my bridge in this storm Have I still got you to keep me warm
If I squeeze my grape then I drink my wine 'Cause if I squeeze my grape and I drink my wine Oh, 'cause nothing is lost, it's just frozen in frost, And it's opening time, there's no-one in line
But I've still got me to be your open door, I've still got me to be your sandy shore I've still got me to cross your bridge in this storm And I've still got me to keep you warm
Warmer than warm, yeah Warmer than warm, yeah Warmer than warm, yeah Warmer than warm, yeah

Here is another one for you...I cannot stress how much I absolutely adore Amos Lee
Learned A Lot
Hey baby! It's all gravy We all do what we got to do Hey darling! I’m broken hearted I’ve been crying but my crying is through
Chorus And I learned a lot I've really learned a lot Broken down on my bedroom/bathroom floor Yes I've learned a lot I've Really learned a lot I hope you find what you were looking for
Spent a lot of time staring at the ceiling Spent a lot of time talking to walls Spent a lot of time chasing on that old-time feeling Spent a lot of time waiting for your call
Chorus
Oh and darling! The sun has been fallin’ Like the dust on some Midwestern plane Oh and darling! Instead of running I think it might be time you sit down and deal with the pain
Late at night I sit and listen to the freeway Rolling like a river on a distant shore Nobody told me that living was easy I ain’t living in fear anymore

Bye Bye Blackbird
Pack up all my cares and woes feeling low here I go Bye Bye blackbird
Where somebody waits for me sugar sweet so is she Bye Bye Blackbird
No one seems to love or understand me and all the hard luck stories they keep handing me where somebody shines the light I'll be coming on home tonight Bye Bye Blackbird
